another year come and gone already. it's tough to believe. so, what happened over the break? a lot, it turns out. here are a few highlights for you:
number of states visited: five
number of snowstorms observed: three (and counting. . . )
number of golden birthdays celebrated: 1
number of new recipes attempted: 2
number of new phones purchased: 2
number of new phone numbers: 1
number of manuscript acceptances: 3
number of manuscript rejections: 1 (and counting. . . )
number of glass drinking glasses broken: 2
number of Christmas cards received: 9
number of IDs that almost expired without being renewed: 2
number of post-break maintenance calls needed: 2
number of plants killed in our absence: 2
and what's in the future? oh, lots of work and traveling, as always.
number of classes being taught this semester: 1
number of conferences approaching: 1
number of participants planned on: >20
number of weeks until dissertation defense: 8
number of analyses that have been done for said defense: 0
number of hours that have been spent putting together data for said analyses for said defense: countless
number of weeks until grant review: 6
number of hours until panic sets in: any minute now.
so, the lock-down will be in place soon. there are, of course, still odds and ends to be tied up from the manuscripts that are going into press and from the course i taught last semester, but i'm hoping to have most of that done today. then it will be dissertation writing, manuscript prep, and the usual meeting schedule in place. this is what 2011 looks like!
love and happy new year to all!

3 acceptances over break??? You are a rockstar becky brooker! Of course, I already knew that ;)
indeed, becca, it was kind of weird how that happened. they just sort of all tumbled out together.
and i've used it about 1,293,583,938 times as a rationale for my not doing nearly enough work over the holiday. i think it's pretty much used up at this point :)
