digital camera fail

matt and i separately had really good intentions for taking a lot of adorable pictures when he was here two weeks ago. between no batteries and being so busy talking about taking the camera that we actually forgot to take the camera, it really was an epic fail. whoops.

true to form, lacey saved the day by taking lots of pictures at the tailgate. that's just one more reason that we keep her around. so i give her credit for probably every photo that you'll see with this blog post. note her texas longhorns coozie in the photo on the right. that was not an accident.

truth be told, the tailgate was not our first event of the weekend. matt flew into harrisburg after giving a test to his class on friday and when we got back to mine and lace's place, there was someone parked in my parking space. yup, i had to have someone towed. i did not like it and i still feel pretty awful about it. but it came to the point where it was between them getting towed and me getting towed, so i chose NOT me. the tailgate was pretty much the first activity on saturday (after assembling a yummy pizza, of course, but i figured nobody would be as excited about that as me). we stopped first at the tailgate hosted by the law students and then - believe it or not - actually tracked down one of matt's friends from high school. it's really interesting how many people will end up being in town for a penn state game at some point. phenomenal. then we spent a few minutes at the HDFS tailgate with jess & co. i'm not really going to go into detail about how not fun it was to be walking around penn state tailgaters when the score of the iowa (v. northwetern) game was announced, but it was grossly uncool. i'll let you fill in the details on your own. that evening was pretty much filled with more and more and more football, as are most saturdays during college football season. lacey, matt, and ryan are all doing really well in our college fantasy football league. i am doing really, really poorly, just to keep everything in balance. isn't that thoughtful of me? this last pic is my fav of the day, by the way, because i look really cynical and matt looks really shy. neither of these things are true.

it quickly got back to business as usual, though, as typically happens. matt was on an interview at ohio university last week, which went well but served as a persistent reminder that the job market this year totally blows. speaking of things that are irritating, i can't even explain my irritation with people acting like leggings are pants. i'm actually to the point that i'm fine with leggings under sweaters and dresses (although kind of burned out on leggings under jeans skirts, to be honest). however, i've seen way too much of this type of thing lately. no, my friends. i don't get vogue anymore, but if i did, i hope i would see an entire spread of articles dedicated to educating people about not wearing leggings as pants.

the only new news lately is that a) i've booked my ticket home for Christmas (yay!) and b) i'll be working with kristin to oversee an undergraduate honors thesis project that's being done by a senior in our lab. i'm actually pretty excited about because it'll help me get through some of the EEG data that i've not even been able to touch yet, and also because my undergraduate honors thesis was a really great experience for me. if i hadn't done it, i'm not sure i would've ever known how much i love psychology research. so, in my typically overly-idealistic way, i'm embarking on this journey. i will be sure to refer back to this paragraph if i start to complain about this very thing in the months to come.

also, i'm hoping that i will be able to run a few pilot participants for my dissertation study in the week after thanksgiving. i wanted to be running participants in october, so you can imagine how eager i am to get things underway. i'm meeting with the manager of the electrophys lab to do a walk through of my study to make sure that i've thought of everything. then, hopefully things can get underway. it would be nice if i heard about some of the dissertation funding awards that i've applied for, however. i imagine i'll soon be needing to pay for this work.

five more days until flying home for thanksgiving. the countdown is on. . .
