this week certainly got busy in a hurry. i've been waiting all week to get to go to sleep tonight. nothing to set the alarm for. it's a sad, sad thing to look forward to, i know.i'm not sure where the week got away from me, actually. i'm not sure how much i remember that happened before yesterday. the most consumming factor, for sure, was the Prevention Research Center's 10th Anniversary Celebration. the director of the PRC is one of the advisors on the traning grant that my fellowship is with, so the trainees were invited to almost all of the events. i myself don't do prevention work, but it was interesting to hear about people doing something different. we also got to have dinner with one of the program officers from the National Institues of Health (NIH). these are the people we'll be working with someday (very soon) to get grants put together and hopefully passed. the woman that i had dinner with was pretty new to the institute (she is specifically offiliated with the National Institute of Mental Health - NIMH) but had some interesting things to say.
i had forgotten until today about the wonder that is paternoville. i think i haven't been driving past it enough to keep it salient in my mind, but every pre-home-game week, students will start camping out in front of the gates of the stadium circa wednesday. it's starting to get awfully cold outside, but they're still at it - and not just a few here or there. when we first realized that we both had a love for college football, lacey and i semi-swore that we would someday do the paternoville scene. now we're starting to realize how much we both like our own beds and places that are....uh...heated. so, maybe one day we'll just show up and share some drinks with some people that seems like it could count. i was impressed driving by this morning and seeing all the tents out, though. it is NOT warm here, so go lions.on that note, how lucky am i that my iowa hawkeye pumpkin had to be thrown away before the game last weekend? it's not exactly a popular week here to be from iowa, let alone to be a hawkeye fan.
my mom texted me a pic of their yard already covered with a dusting of snow. i can't b
elieve it's already almost here. it makes me giggle to think how not long ago it was that lacey had never lived somewhere with snow and had to get used to things like boots and ice scrapers and how the defrost works. i think at some point last year we decided that i'm still better at driving on the snow, but she's waaaaay less of a baby about how cold it gets. i also taught her to make snow angels. does that mean that i win? :) actually, we think it will work out perfectly in the new place, where lacey can live on the bottom floor and i can live on the top so that everyone is in their optimal environment. this is contingent on me finding people to help carry things up steps of course. still there, dad? :)

d about the approaching holiday. mostly because it effortlessly became associated with seeing a lot of people who i love very much in a very little amount of time. matt will be here for a few days next week, karen and i get a few days together in the cities, and hopefully everyone will be up to buffalo center for some thanksgiving celebration. there are different reasons that each of these things will be absolutely sublime. there really is no place like home, though, and it's been almost a full year since i've been back. far too long. (can you believe one of those pictures has a tracter driving acro
ss mainstreet on it? honestly....) i suppose at the very least i'll have to make sure that kassi and i get to take a drive together. i can't believe she's actually old enough to chauffer any of us around. we all knew the day was coming, but it's scary to think that it's already been here and passed. i remember when she was born erik saying that she wasn't dating until she turns 30. now i see pictures like this of her playing high school volleyball and i wonder if it was really so crazy after all. wow. i can only imagine how old i will feel when that happens. and that's probably equally true for kassi dating and kassi turning 30.

love to you all.
